MINE TO MARKET: A GLOBAL JOURNEY

Formed about 3 billion years ago, the diamond is the oldest asset you may ever own.

MINE

The journey of a diamond starts in a mine. Whether it's Australia, India, Africa, Canada or Russia, the diamonds that made it to the surface of the earth were forced up volcanically through natural pipes. The deepest mine pipes can run 35,000 feet into the earth. Some mines sift through stones in river beds, some mine old volcanos, and others dig deep into the earth with machinery. Tons of rock are moved for only a few carats – which is why diamonds are so rare and valuable. Only 20% of the rough diamonds that are mined are suitable for polishing.1

DIAMOND TENDERS/SIGHTS

These rough stones are then sorted according to size, color, shape and other chemical and physical characteristics.2 The roughs are then sold to manufacturers through an exclusive, invitation only process called a Tender. Only a handful of global manufacturers are selected to inspect and order from the Tender.

MANUFACTURING

The major diamond cutting centers are in Antwerp, Tel Aviv, Bombay, Johannesburg and NY, where the cut is determined in order to yield the best value for each rough stone.

CUTTING

The stone’s shape, measurements and weight are determined, as well as the number of its internal inclusions. After this, the stone goes through a rigorous and highly detailed series of cutting by cutters who each have their own speciality. Diamond cutting is an extremely detailed art which requires specialized tools, knowledge, and technique.

INSPECTION

Diamonds that pass this rigorous process must also obtain paperwork certifying this process (physically and on the blockchain). In the final inspection, the diamond is graded based on the 4 C’s and receives its official certification grade. The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) sets the standards for the grading and has offices all over the world.3 It is critical to note that diamonds are the only alternative asset that have universally accepted inspection and authentication methods with the GIA being recognized globally as the regulation authority.

MARKET

Finally, the diamond is polished and ready for sale. Today, diamond manufacturers can sell directly to consumers, but the majority are sold to diamond wholesalers and brokers, who then sell to jewelers.

SECURITIZATION

LUXUS is the first platform in which individuals and entities regardless of wealth or status can invest in shares of the world's rarest diamonds. We work together with the diamond supply side community (from wholesale to retail) to identify key trends that indicate value creation within the luxury market (i.e. closing of a diamond mine or major estate disposition). Together with our partners, LUXUS locates and procures an asset at the best possible price, whether it be from the secondary market or having a diamond cut exclusively for LUXUS. Our legal team then files an offering circular with the SEC and FINRA, which, once qualified, enables us to IPO the asset and allow all investors to buy shares.
